Grace’s Journey Begins: A New Chapter Under the Bus Scholarship Fund

In an inspiring development, Grace Sitinei has officially begun her journey toward becoming an Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teacher, thanks to the Bus Scholarship Fund launched by Art for Children Foundation (A4C). Grace reported to St. Ann’s Montessori Teachers Training College in Nakuru on Monday, September 16, where she will be a full-board student.

The Bus Scholarship Fund, introduced in early September, initially garnered 26 registrations, leading to 3 applications. After a rigorous selection process, only Grace qualified for the scholarship, following the unfortunate termination of two others due to unavoidable circumstances. Despite these setbacks, Grace’s dedication and passion shone through, securing her a full scholarship.

Grace’s connection to A4C runs deep. She has been an integral part of the Nakuru Children Art and Mentorship Programme (NACAMP) since the organization’s establishment in July 2016. Through NACAMP, she has not only honed her artistic side but has also developed and grown up to be a leader, showcasing her commitment to fostering creativity and mentorship within the community.

Grace’s journey began with a week of intensive training at A4C’s offices, culminating in a final day at the Children’s Village Trust. This training prepared her for the scholarship and the vocational challenges ahead. Accompanied by key figures from the Naivasha community, including A4C’s Volunteer Coordinator Ms. Pauline Onyango, Partnership Coordinator Ms. Christine Muchemi, and social worker Mr. Walter Ngithi from Asante Children’s Home, Grace was welcomed at the college with open arms.

The community’s support has been invaluable. Local stakeholders have played a crucial role in shaping the scholarship from an idea to a fully realized program, contributing through the #1000Strong campaign. Asante Children’s Home also made significant contributions, assisting with shopping for Grace and providing essential materials, including books.

In her own words, Grace expressed immense gratitude: “Thank you to Art for Children Foundation and everyone involved in providing me with the scholarship to study to become an ECDE teacher. It has always been my passion to teach little children and help them build their foundation in education, something that I really struggled with as a child. Being at the college makes this childhood dream and passion a reality. I look forward to excelling and ultimately bringing change through ECDE teaching.”

Grace’s story is a testament to the power of community and support. To continue aiding vulnerable young adults like Grace in achieving their dreams, consider joining the #1000Strong campaign.
